About this hub
Gavel Alaska is a statewide television service of KTOO Public Media, Juneau's public media organization, providing unedited live and recorded coverage of Alaska state government independently of the legislature and funded by the City and Borough of Juneau and private sector supporters.
Broadcasting in high definition on KTOO 360TV and available over the air on public television stations in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Bethel, and Juneau, Gavel Alaska covers Alaska House and Senate floor sessions, legislative committee meetings, governor's press conferences, oral arguments before the Alaska Supreme Court, and other government events during the annual legislative session - broadcasting more than 850 hours of coverage in 2025. In 2021, the operation moved to a state-of-the-art robotic camera system with 40 permanently-mounted cameras in the Capitol, and all coverage streams live at gavelalaska.org.
Alaskans across the state's vast geography rely on Gavel Alaska as the definitive record of the state's legislative and executive proceedings - coverage that is especially vital in a state where geography makes physical attendance at the Capitol in Juneau impossible for most residents, and where legislative decisions on oil revenues, subsistence rights, and public services affect every community.
