About this hub
Rochester Community Media Center (RCTV) is a nonprofit community-oriented public access television station serving the City of Rochester, New York, founded in 1993 with a mission to provide noncommercial civic space that promotes community development and strengthens democracy in the Flower City.
RCTV broadcasts on Spectrum Channel 1301 and also operates 100.9 FM WXIR, an LPFM urban alternative radio station with 50 volunteer DJs producing diverse programming including urban and global music, talk shows on financial topics, LGBTQ issues, empowerment, marriage and family, and more. The media center offers adult and youth media production classes in video editing, studio production, animation, Adobe After Effects, acting, podcasting, and game building, and hosts youth programs in collaboration with community partners.
Rochester residents - in a post-industrial upstate New York city with a proud tradition of progressive civic activism rooted in the legacy of Frederick Douglass, Susan B. Anthony, and the abolition movement - rely on RCTV for the free-speech broadcast platform and media education that give voice to communities the organization describes as "often falling beneath traditional media's radar."
