About this hub
Brookline Interactive Group (BIG) is a nonprofit community media center and integrated media and technology education facility serving Brookline, Massachusetts, rooted in the legacy of public access television since 1988 and located in Central Square.
BIG operates two cable channels - a Community Cable Channel (Comcast 6, RCN 3) and a Civic/Government Channel (Comcast 8, RCN 15) - providing more than 700 hours of government meetings, town meetings, and public hearings annually through its Civic Brookline initiative, alongside community-produced programming, local film festivals, and original storytelling projects. The organization offers free and low-cost training in digital storytelling, video production, editing, and community journalism, serves over 500 youth and adults annually, and provides media education grants, production services to nonprofits, and emerging technology programs including VR projects that have been showcased at venues including the United Nations.
Brookline residents know BIG as both the place to follow Select Board, School Committee, and town meeting proceedings and as a creative media hub where residents and organizations can learn to tell their own stories - a first amendment resource in one of Massachusetts' most politically engaged and culturally diverse communities.
