About this hub
Alabama Public Television (APT) is a statewide network of PBS member television stations operated by the Alabama Educational Television Commission, an agency of state government, serving all Alabamians from its network operations center in Birmingham.
APT first went on the air on January 7, 1955, making it the nation's first statewide public television network - a model that 25 other states would follow. Today it operates nine digital transmitters reaching nearly 100 percent of the state, each broadcasting four channels: APT HD, APT World, APT Create, and APT Kids, along with public radio station WLRH-FM in Huntsville. Programming includes national PBS content alongside local documentary and public affairs productions that have earned more than 50 Emmy awards over the decades.
Alabamians have grown up with APT as the source for classroom instructional television, statewide public affairs coverage, and local documentaries celebrating the state's history, music, and communities - a broadcast presence that reaches into homes from Mobile to Muscle Shoals.
