South Carolina ETV (SCETV) is the statewide public television network for South Carolina, tracing its roots to 1958 when it began as a closed-circuit teaching network in the library of Dreher High School in Columbia, becoming the first open-circuit educational television station in the state with WNTV in Greenville in 1963 and growing into a network of 11 television transmitters serving all of South Carolina.
SCETV operates four channels - ETV-HD (primary PBS programming and local content), The South Carolina Channel (South Carolina history, arts, nature, and Create programming), ETV World (WORLD channel news and documentaries plus State House Today legislative coverage), and SCETV PBS Kids (24-hour children's programming) - producing 33,818 hours of educational programming annually and maintaining a statewide tower network serving schools, hospitals, and emergency management teams alongside eight South Carolina Public Radio stations.
South Carolina residents across all 46 counties rely on SCETV for the public television programming, South Carolina-specific cultural and historical content, and legislative coverage that reflects and documents one of the South's most historically complex and culturally rich states - a broadcaster that has served as an educational institution for South Carolina since before many of its viewers were born.
