Queens Public Television

Queens Public Television (QPTV) is the nonprofit public access television network serving the Borough of Queens, New York City, established in 1982 and launching its cable transmission in 1988 with the program Slovak Sunshine - a fitting debut for the most linguistically diverse borough in the world's most diverse city.

QPTV manages four community television channels under the franchise agreement between the City of New York and cable operators, broadcasting on Spectrum, RCN, and Verizon Fios channels and training thousands of Queens residents in media production since its founding. The channels air programming in over a dozen languages reflecting the more than 200 languages spoken in Queens, including shows produced by and for immigrant communities from every corner of the globe, senior adults, youth, faith communities, and civic organizations.

Queens residents - in a borough where virtually every culture, religion, political viewpoint, and community from around the world has taken root - rely on QPTV for the free-speech broadcast platform that makes democracy visible in the most diverse human community on earth, where the town square has indeed, as QPTV puts it, gone digital.
