About this hub
El Barrio Firehouse Community Media Center is Manhattan Neighborhood Network's East Harlem community media facility, located in a former firehouse in El Barrio. The center extends MNN's public access and media education work into upper Manhattan through training, production space, community events, and public media resources.
Opened in 2012, the Firehouse offers media production training, access to tools and facilities, and free community events for Manhattan residents. Its location in a historic neighborhood and adaptive reuse of a former firehouse give the center a strong place-based identity within New York City's public access ecosystem.
The Firehouse matters because it shows how community media can be both a technical resource and a neighborhood institution. It gives East Harlem residents access to media tools while anchoring production, learning, and public storytelling in a building with civic and community memory.
