About this hub
ʻŌlelo Community Media is Oʻahu’s nonprofit public, educational, and governmental (PEG) access television provider, launched in 1989 and operating from Honolulu with a mission to strengthen island voices and advance community engagement through innovative media.
ʻŌlelo operates four cable channels on Spectrum and Hawaiian Telcom: FOCUS 49, featuring state government programming and statewide events; NATV 53, featuring arts, sports, entertainment, cultural, and community events; VIEWS 54, featuring Honolulu City Council, city and county meetings and events; and OAHU 55, featuring inspirational programming. It also offers ʻŌleloNet on Demand, a mobile app, and streaming on YouTube. The organization operates full media centers with live studio and green screen capabilities, mobile production units, and equipment for certified community producers. It also produces programming for nonprofit and government agencies and provides workforce development and youth media education programs.
Oʻahu residents across the island’s diverse communities, from Waimānalo to Waiʻanae and from Kailua to Kapolei, rely on ʻŌlelo for community storytelling, government transparency, and cultural programming that reflects Hawaiʻi’s island diversity in languages and perspectives that commercial television, often focused on the Honolulu tourism market, rarely provides.
