Producer, T-Time in Olympia

Digital 2010-2019

Amy Layton is a producer and co-creator of T-Time in Olympia, the community media program that received the ACM's 2017 Jewell Ryan-White Award for Cultural Diversity. The program used Olympia's public access channel to create regular, accessible conversations about gender, sexuality, LGBTQ+ life, medical questions, and community experience, building a local resource for people navigating questions that commercial and mainstream public media rarely addressed with the care or specificity the community needed.

T-Time's approach placed the people closest to those questions in front of the camera rather than behind a journalist's interpretation, which is the core practice public access was designed to make possible.

Amy's work with the program reflects what a committed local producer can build over time on a community channel: a trusted, recognizable voice for a specific community, produced from inside it.
