Jon Funfar

Jon Funfar is a government access television professional whose community media career was built in local government communications in Washington State. He grew up in Enumclaw, graduated from Pacific Lutheran University, and began his community media work in 2000 as Media Services Manager for the City of Enumclaw. In 2009 he won the ACM Hometown Award for Overall Excellence in Government Access. In 2011 he moved to Washington State's Tri-Cities region, where he served for 13 years as Digital Media Administrator for the City of Pasco, focusing on video production, media relations, and digital platform management for the city and its residents. In January 2025 he moved into a communications role at Washington River Protection Solutions, the Department of Energy contractor managing the Hanford site's radioactive waste storage operations.

His regional service has been equally sustained. He contributed to the ACM Northwest Region board and served as President of the Washington Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors, the state chapter of NATOA, where local government telecommunications professionals work together on cable franchise policy, PEG channel operations, and the regulatory issues that shape what community media can do for residents. In 2021 he received the ACM's Sue Miller Buske Leadership Award, recognizing his commitment to the mission and goals of the Alliance for Community Media and his sustained service at the local, regional, and national level.

His career reflects the government-access side of community media - the daily work of helping residents watch public meetings, follow local decisions, see their communities on screen, and stay connected to the institutions that shape daily life.
