The Record
Tarek Bagdadi received the ACM's Jewell Ryan-White Award for Cultural Diversity in 2003, recognized for work connected to the Minneapolis Telecommunications Network, one of the Twin Cities' primary public access organizations. MTN serves Minneapolis with training, production support, and channel access, and Tarek's work there contributed to the station's multicultural programming and community representation during a period when Minneapolis was becoming one of the most culturally diverse cities in the upper Midwest.
His recognition placed his work within the field's commitment to ensuring that public access channels reflected the communities they served, not just the communities most likely to show up at a media center without outreach and support.
