Tracy Rosenberg

Tracy Rosenberg has served as executive director of Media Alliance, a democratic communications advocacy organization based in Oakland, since 2007, working at the intersection of community media, independent journalism, media justice, and digital rights in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work with the ACM Western Region connects that advocacy directly to the PEG access field, and her service on the Pacifica Foundation board ties her to the listener-supported public radio tradition that shares values, audiences, and political commitments with community television. Media Alliance's work includes defending independent and alternative media outlets, training community organizations in communications strategy, and pressing for policy that keeps media infrastructure accessible to people without institutional resources.

Tracy co-coordinates Oakland Privacy, the Bay Area surveillance coalition that won the first municipal privacy commission in Oakland and secured surveillance transparency ordinances in multiple California jurisdictions. That work connects community media values to the contemporary fight over who controls information systems and who gets to be seen or unseen within them.

Tracy has spent her career arguing in organizing and policy spaces that community media is not a niche service but a piece of the democratic infrastructure that has to be defended alongside press freedom, privacy rights, and public access to information.
