Jessica Mason

Jessica Mason is a media educator and producer at BRIC in Brooklyn, where her work focuses on adult media education, production training, and community storytelling for one of the country's largest and most active public access operations. BRIC's media center serves Brooklyn's enormous cultural diversity through training programs that move residents from audience to producer, building the skills, confidence, and access to equipment that make local storytelling possible across the borough's many communities.

Her work sits at the training core of what public access centers do: not broadcasting content to passive audiences, but teaching community members to create content of their own and providing the platform to distribute it.

The work of media educators like Jessica is what makes the open-access model function in practice, because a channel open to everyone is only as good as the number of people who know how to use it.
