Media Justice and Civic Engagement Leader

Lauren-Glenn Davitian is a community media co-founder, public policy advocate, and longtime presence at CCTV Center for Media and Democracy in Burlington, Vermont. In 1984, working with a group of activists and attorney Sam Press, she helped secure funding for Vermont's first five public access television operations and co-founded CCTV, which she led as Executive Director for nearly four decades. Under her leadership, CCTV grew from a public access operation into a durable civic institution - launching Town Meeting TV in 1990, CyberSkills Vermont in 1995 to expand internet access for job seekers and nonprofits, and Common Good Vermont in 2008 to connect and educate Vermont's nonprofit sector. She holds a BA in Anthropology from the University of Vermont and has taught as adjunct faculty at Antioch University New England and Champlain College.

Her influence extends across Vermont's community media system. As a founding member of the Vermont Access Network, she worked to build and sustain the network of 25 community media centers operating more than 44 channels across the state. She stepped down as Executive Director in September 2022 and now serves as Public Policy Director at CCTV, focusing on advocacy, archival research, and media production. In 2007, she received the ACM's Dirk Koning-George Stoney Award for Humanistic Communication, recognizing her contribution to community media as a civic and democratic practice.

Her career belongs to the generation of leaders who connected local access practice with statewide advocacy, making community media visible as public infrastructure for democracy - and who understood that keeping channels open, funded, and accountable required not just production skills but sustained political and policy work on behalf of the communities those channels were built to serve.
