Leon Taylor

Leon Taylor is Director of Community Media at BRIC in Brooklyn, where he has built a career that began in December 2002 as a Traffic Assistant at Brooklyn Community Access Television, moving through roles as Program Coordinator, Senior Liaison for Community Producers, and Manager of Community Producer Services before reaching station leadership. That path through the operational interior of one of the country's most active public access organizations gave him a practitioner's knowledge of how community media actually works at every level. In 2023 he received the ACM's Jewell Ryan-White Award for Cultural Diversity.

BRIC serves Brooklyn's enormous and diverse population as a public access center, media arts organization, and civic institution, and Leon's more than two decades of service there span the station's transition from Brooklyn Community Access Television into one of the field's most visible urban community media operations.

His career at BRIC is one of the clearer examples of what sustained commitment to a single community media organization can produce: deep institutional knowledge, strong community relationships, and the credibility that comes from having done the work at every level before leading it.
