Library-Based Community Media Leader

Norm Compton is a longtime community media leader whose work has been closely tied to Access Fort Wayne and the Allen County Public Library in Indiana. Through Access Fort Wayne, he has helped support local production, public access programming, community events, and the everyday work of helping residents and organizations use media to tell local stories. His career reflects the library-based access model at its best: public media tools housed inside a trusted civic institution and made available to the community.

Norm's contribution also extends through regional field service with the Central States Alliance for Community Media, where he served in board and finance leadership roles and helped support the regional networks that keep community media centers connected. His ongoing production work with Access Fort Wayne has remained visible through Philo Festival recognition, including recent honors connected to local arts and culture programming. In 2025, Norm received the ACM's Sue Miller Buske Leadership Award, recognizing a career of steady service to public access, local media, and the community media field.
