Richard Turner

Richard Turner has served as executive director of the Community Media Center of Carroll County in Westminster, Maryland, bringing more than 30 years of experience in community media to a station that provides digital media training, production, technical services, and distribution to county residents, nonprofits, and eight municipalities. Before Carroll County he led stations in Hawaii and in Montgomery County, Maryland, giving him a breadth of operational experience across different market contexts. He served six years on the ACM national board of directors and chaired the board from 2021 to 2023, taking on national field leadership at a moment of significant pressure on PEG funding and infrastructure. In 2024 he received the ACM's Sue Miller Buske Leadership Award.

Under his leadership the Community Media Center has expanded its civic coverage substantially, producing more than 200 municipal meetings annually and building out sports, documentary, and educational programming that connect Carroll County residents to the institutions and stories that shape their community.

Richard's career across multiple states and market sizes, combined with his national board leadership, represents the kind of practitioner the field depends on: someone who can run a station well and argue for the field at the same time.
