Leader/Executive
Shelley Wolfe
Community Media Executive and Educator
The Record
Shelley Wolfe is a community media executive whose career spans nearly 30 years in public, educational, and government access television, including leadership of multiple PEG stations across the country. She served as Executive Director of KMVT 15 Silicon Valley Community Media in Mountain View, California, where she expanded the station's community programming, digital workshops, sports coverage, and youth education offerings, and received the ACM Brian Wilson Mentorship Award for her work with producers and students.
She then moved to Philadelphia, where she became Executive Director of Media and Production Services at PSTV, the educational television channel for the School District of Philadelphia - a station she helped revive and rebuild into a working production resource for Philadelphia students and schools. During her time there, she developed a long-running partnership with the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education, co-founded Stories In My Backyard, a nonprofit dedicated to culturally relevant media education for Black youth, and served on the ACM national board. In 2018, she received the ACM's Sue Miller Buske Leadership Award. She became Executive Director of CCTV Center for Media and Democracy in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2025.
Her work reflects the educational and mentorship side of community media - the belief that access is not only a channel or a studio, but a learning pathway where students, residents, and local institutions gain the skills, confidence, and tools to tell their own stories. Whether working with Philadelphia high schoolers producing documentaries or Silicon Valley youth learning broadcast production, she has consistently returned to the same conviction: media is most powerful when the people it is about are the ones making it.
